“It would take off on its own, and re-design itself at an ever increasing rate.”
Stephen Hawking
Stephen Hawking, one of the world’s most illustrious scientists, once issued a warning regarding the colossal threat that AI could present to humanity in the not-so-distant future. While he acknowledges the usefulness of elemental forms of artificial intelligence, he fears the consequences of developing technology that surpasses human capability. Decades of science fiction geared towards AI supremacy and robotic overlords seem to echo Hawking’s concerns, but of course, these creative endeavors are purely speculative.
Not all experts are so skeptical. Rollo Carpenter, the creator of Jabberwacky and Cleverbot, learning Artificial Intelligence (AI) software, stated:
“I believe we will remain in charge of technology for a decently long time and the potential of it to solve many of the world problems will be realized.”

Whatever happens, it is still fascinating to explore the robotic and AI imaginings of humankind. No matter how powerful the technology becomes, it is safe to say it will never surpass human creativity. This compendium of fictional artificial intelligence proves it.
