Data loss isn't just an inconvenience - it's a race against the clock. Whether you're recovering a single critical file or rebuilding an entire infrastructure, every minute of downtime costs money and trust.
The new features and enhancements in our Q2 2025 release help MSPs and IT professionals perform reliable, lightning-fast restores by keeping that downtime as short as possible.
We've also added a variety of usage metrics to help you understand exactly what you're storing with our Managed Backup solution and how you're being billed, which then gives you insights into how you can optimize costs.
This blog post summarizes the highlights of the new release, but for the full technical deep dive, check out our:
Problem:
Imagine a ransomware attack hits at 2 AM. You need to restore a lot of data - fast. But slow restore speeds, unclear backup health, or manual processes that require you to sift through each backup file could turn hours into days.
Here are the different ways we’re supporting you:
Let’s start with a brand-new feature that turns the topic of backup, restore, and recovery tests on its head. By being able to mount any backup file, no matter how old it is, you can get a quick overview of the files contained in the backup, ensure they are all functioning, and even copy individual files (or everything that’s included in the mount) to your computer.
So, when would you opt for mounting the backup file instead of restoring the entire backup?
The mounting option is great if you need to restore a file that you and the user don’t know where it’s at. Simply mount the backup and search within the mount for i.e., the file name to see if the backup you selected contains the correct version. And then the user can simply copy it to their computer.
Side note, this is a precursor to a new upcoming feature that we are really excited about. 😉
Till now, you had to manually connect (i.e., via TeamViewer) to the local agent or travel to its actual location to be able to restore a file or a system, as it was only possible from the locally installed agent.
Now we’ve added the ability to initiate restores from the Central Management. No more waiting for your customer to be available, no wonky connection - simply start your data recovery immediately.
We often talk about ransomware and how backups can help with getting potentially encrypted data back fast. But human error is by far the most common reason for data loss. Unfortunately, that’s also true for accidentally (or maliciously) deleted backup files. In addition, a backup could be interrupted or otherwise compromised and not secure all the changes to the selected files.
Additional integrity checks now help NovaBACKUP see if there are files missing on the backup storage and request those missing files with the ongoing backup if that’s the case. Or if there’s more data on the storage than is listed in the index, it will correct the index accordingly and make sure the backups are restorable.
We’ve enhanced how the initial scanning and the backup data itself is handled during a restore, which significantly reduced the time it takes to restore a backup file, no matter if it is a backup stored on local storage or in the cloud.
Problem:
Being able to back up your customers’ data and restore it in an emergency is just one side of a Managed Backup solution. But there’s also a bureaucratic side to the business of Managed Backup services. You, as the MSP, need to know:
Here are the different ways we’re supporting you:
While our monthly invoices have a detailed breakdown of what you’re being charged for, it was just a once-per-month glimpse into your usage. From now on, you’ll receive a weekly email with details about the number of agents that are connected to your service and how much total cloud storage is being used.
Example email of a usage report
While you can easily get an overview of all the agents you have connected to the Managed Backup solution and can see how much cloud storage each customer is using, your accounting team might need a separate spreadsheet with that information.
Now you can download the list of agents and their groups as well as the cloud usage per device as an Excel or CSV file and share that with your team.
To delete a customer’s cloud backup data, you had to either update the retention time or reach out to us to get everything deleted at once. While that adds an extra fail-safe for accidentally deleted data, it also adds quite a process for you.
Now you have the option to delete only the cloud backups or the entire cloud storage, including the data associated with those cloud storage accounts. Just note: Once it’s deleted, even we can’t restore it, so please use this ability with caution.
There's always a lot that goes into each of our releases. Many features and enhancements are not visible to you, but they improve the stability, reliability, and security of the platform. Some of those items in the Q2 2025 release are:
